Landscape of Touching
Thinking about the touchscreen surface as a tactile landscape I sketched out a kind of ‘spectrum’ of possible terrains listing many types of ‘hands-on’ touch which a person might experience – ranging from ‘very gentle’ at the left thru to ‘very hard’ at the right. The ‘Landscape of Touching’ starts at the left with ‘blowing out candles’ and ‘licking a lollypop’ and reaches it’s extreme... Read More
youtube brain
The idea of navigating through someones mind using touch has been the main focus of experimentation for me during todays task. Adding recorded experiences in addition to found images and videos to a diagram of a brain, I developed a basic navigational tool that could potentially exhibit memories, experiences, ideas, thoughts, emotions and elements of personality through digital means. .prezi-player { width: 550px; } .prezi-player-links { text-align: center; } DM LABS V LUCAS... Not quite infinity
We had our first quick go at using Prezi this morning, a web-based presentation tool using a map layout, zooming and other things. My attempt doesn’t work so well when you click on the actual words (needs tweeking) so its best you click on the play button below and imagine its a touch screen and your touching the actual words. I starting thinking about the process of touching as a way of navigating through something, which led me to wonder where we were and where we were... Read More
Day 1: Visualising Scale
Today we were introduced to the web-based presentation software Prezi. It can be used to make very flashy-looking presentations which can zoom in-and-out and move around different spatial planes, enabling the viewer to focus in on different details. Bob Levene mentioned the similarities between Prezi’s zoom affect and the groundbreaking Charles and Ray Eames film Powers of Ten from 1977. I watched the film and became interested in using the Prezi software as a tool for visualising... Read More
Workshop day one
Today’s activities were mainly directed towards the production of some fast prototypes using Prezi and testing them on the touchscreens. It was really interesting to get a sense of the different approaches taken by different members of the group, and to see that all of us met the limitations of Prezi fairly quickly. Some of its functions map onto gestures fairly straightforwardly (such as ‘zoom in’ onto ‘jab at that with a fingertip’), but other functions,... Read More
